Department of Computer Science & Engineering

Computer Science & Engineering Department was established in the year 2004 with a mission to develop qualified and skilled man power through quality teaching and learning processes. The department is enriched with qualified and experienced faculties and staffs who provide quality teaching and training to the students.
CSE Department emphasizes the fields of Information Technology, Software Engineering, Network and Information Security and other Domain Specific Applications so as to facilitate the evolution of skills in students to help them attain a higher degree of knowledge and global competency to succeed in professional career.

Lateral Entry

Our students come from a variety of cultural and geographic backgrounds. We try to groom them with effective training and co-curricular activities. Students of CSE Department are successfully working in corporate sector across the globe. Many among our students from the five passed out batches (2008 to 2012) are currently working in companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, CTS, Mahindra Satyam, Accenture, IBM, Syntel, NEC-HCL System Technologies, Odessa Technologies, Capgemini, Oracle India, Manhattan Technologies, Sasken, L&T Infotech, Virtusa etc.
Apart from a career in the corporate sector many students opted for higher studies and pursued M. Tech. or MBA after graduating for the college. They are currently involved in academic and research activities.

The prime focus is to promote the effective integration of technology with state-of-the-art facilities in teaching and research activities.

Events Organized

Department organizes workshop and seminars on regular basis. In current academic year (2012-2013) also we organized few events in the department.

Infosys-ASPIRATION 2020 in Aug-Sep, 2012: The ASPIRATION 2020 is a National level programming contest; organized by INFOSYS Ltd. Infosys has nine development centers (DCs). Each DC is divided into two to four zones. Each zone comprises of 20 to 35 colleges. Our college comes under the Bhubaneswar DC, Zone 2. There are three zones which come under Bhubaneswar DC.

In the current year the event held during August-September, 2012. Almost all 2ND, 3RD and 4TH year students of CSE department along with many from ECE and EE department students participated in the contest. Maximum of 3 members can form a team for the participation.

According to the Infosys, this contest is targeted to enhance problem solving and algorithmic thinking abilities by application of IT concepts, encourage the spirit of competitiveness and accelerate learning through contests, Exposes students to the state-of-the-art tools used by IT Industry and provides opportunity for students to network with students from other Institutions and Professionals.

Although the problems are not so easy, many teams solved different problems. Although, previous year our college qualified for the DC finals but unfortunately, this year our performance was not good enough to qualify for the final round. But students enjoyed this event and took it as a challenge. They gathered knowledge about how to use the online portals. Our aim is to try our best to achieve the desired goal and perform better in future days.

Seminar on Android Technology in March, 2013: All the students of the Computer Science & Engineering department of our college got an opportunity of getting together when a half day seminar was organized by our CSE department during the course of the even semester. The Saturday afternoon of 16th March 2013 kicked off to a head start at 1.30 pm sharp with Mr. N. Gupta, the regional marketing manager of MCAPL (a Training Institute for IBM certified courses) taking the students on a journey through the history of IBM from 1911 when it was formed to the present date.

No sooner did Mr. Gupta finished his demonstration than a group of our very own departmental students rose to the podium to present a brief overview of the Android Operating System, a technology that is raving the present world of mobiles, smart phones and tablets. The group comprising Arnab, Soumashree, Dipankar and Sudeshna of 3rd year CSE took as less as half an hour to give the audience a basic idea about Android which served very useful, since what followed could easily be termed as an Android marathon. To the stage rose Mr. R. Sarkar, of Ardent training institution. He wasted not a single minute to plunge into the world of Android app development. He pointed out how easy it was to create our own Android app. He also created a demo app on spot to give the students an idea of app development.

Every student from first year to final year who attended the seminar left with various new ideas, many new job scopes and a brief but precise idea about application development on Android Operating System.

Video Tutorial workshop in March-April, 2013: A workshop on “Java Technology” was held at CSE Department on 7th March 2013 in collaboration with Spoken Tutorial Team, IIT Bombay. The workshop was organized for CSE students. The objective of workshop was to introduce students to JAVA – installation, configuration, application development and deployment.

It was a two phase workshop, where first phase was a learning phase and second phase was certification phase. The first phase was held on 7th March 2013 at our college laboratory by using video conferencing. During video conferencing students get to know about the installation of java and Eclipse IDE. After that students got the video tutorials covering different topics of java programming.

The second phase was held on 9th April 2013 at our college laboratory. The certification phase was a screening phase where students appeared for an online test. The test was based on the topics which students learnt from the tutorials during first phase of workshop.
